Jellyfish are my favorite animals. I've loved them ever since I was a little kid. I would constantly check out the same book over and over about jellyfish from my elementary school library. I would constantly draw them. One of my favorite childhood memories is watching the Pacific Sea Nettle exhibit in the Georgia Aquarium. Even to this day I'm obsessed with them! I'm like Marge Simpson holding the potato, "I just think they're neat."

Naturally, I eventually decided to make a jellyfish character. I wanted to do something a bit different with her design though. Usually, when people draw anthro jellyfish, they usually draw a very humanoid-looking character with a large bell on their head, resembling a hat of sorts. (Think the jellyfish characters from Shark Tale lol)

i hate that i have to reference these designs lmao

There's nothing wrong with that, of course. But I wanted to try something that I haven't really seen before, so I made her head the entire jellyfish part. So you could remove her head completely and she'd look like a normal jelly. (besides the giant googly eyes, of course)

Despite her being based off a moon jellies, those aren't actually my favorite type of jellyfish lol. I based her off of them because it's very recognizible, plus her blue color palette is very satisying to look at. If I had to make another jellyfish character, I'd probably base them off of Pacific Sea Nettles or spotted lagoon jellyfish.

I love beaches (hence why Knuckle City is located by the seaside), so I tend to draw her a lot on top of beach backgrounds. I also try to incorporate some of my frutiger aero love into her pics lol.

A couple of other random fun facts... I almost named her Medusa! Medusa being the scientific term for an adult jelly. I think "Bell" rolls off the tongue better though.

Her shirt was also based off this specific lego torso I had when I was a kid.
