You feel an emptiness inside if you as you look at these pages. They look hastily written, with ink blotches staining the paper.
For the last couple years I told myself that I wanted to enjoy Halloween to the fullest, but things came up or I got busy and didn't really appreciate the month as much as I wanted to. That's why this year, I made a list of things I want to do. Scary games to play, movies to watch, things I want to eat/drink, places I want to go... stuff like that. That way I can look at the list and go "Nice, what a great month."
I also had a bunch of vacation days stocked up that I have to use before the near end of the year, so I decided to just take a bunch of days off this month. I deserve to have a little fun, this has been a stressful year for me. So I hope come the end I can say that I enjoyed Halloween to the fullest.
The Yume Nikki Online Project is a way to play the original game in your browser, along with several of its most popular fangames. Not only that, but you can play it with other people too. So I played it with some friends of mine who've never experienced the game before, and it was a blast. I loved seeing their reactions to things, it was like playing through it the first time again. I highly recommend checking it out with friends. You can check it out here!
Still though, been enjoying this October so far. One of my favorite parts of Halloween is my favorite Youtubers making extra-spooky videos. A recent example is one of my current favorite creators Marsh. He normally does videos about Shin Megami Tensei, but recently has been dabbling in obscure Japanese only RPG maker games. Some real obscure ones, too. I strongly recommend his video on GU-L. His recent one is about a duology of games called Nehan. It's really refreshing to see RPG horror games being talked about that aren't just the same handful of popular ones like Witch's House or Mad Father. Check out the video here.
A new episode of the Amazing Digital Circus came out a few days ago. I love TADC, it's one of those things where I'm kinda sad it didn't exist when I was younger cause I would've been ALL over it. I still think it's really neat though, the animation is great and it's pretty funny at points. I thought the second episode was kinda whatever, but this new one feels like the show is hitting its stride after the pilot.
On a whim yesterday I decided to reply Crow Country. That game is probably the king of all the PS1-style horror games that have come out the last few years or so. It has a great atmosphere, it's just short enough, and good Lord you just have to see the game in action, it looks immaculate. I think one of my favorite things about the art style is they didn't try to make the characters look like Resident Evil characters or something. They're slightly cartoony and *just* chibi enough, they remind me of Pilotwings 64 characters or something.
If you need a Halloween game this year PLEASE check out Crow Country. The devs of this made fuckin Snipperclips before this???
I want to watch some scary movies too. Midsommar and I Saw the TV Glow (or whatever it's called) are on my watch list. I'll probably watch them while I'm housesitting for my parents this weekend. As for other games, my friends and I are going to check out Yume 2kki most likely. I thought about getting the Silent Hill 2 remake... but $70 is a pretty hefty price tag. Maybe I'll just wait and see if Vinny streams it.
This month has been rough on me. I've been dealing with the worst depressive spell I've had all year. Thankfully, I'm taking my first steps to get proper care for my mental health, and I've been still able to do a ton of stuff this Halloween.
Apart from the usual spooky games and movies, a game came out recently called WEBFISHING. While not a spooky game, it's definitely Autumn-coded. It's just a simple game where you walk around a park and fish. The perpetually cloudy sky, way the leaves fall gently down as you fish... yeah, definitely autumn-coded. I prefer playing it alone but it's a game best experienced playing with complete strangers. I had some pleasent experiences playing it, like one person who played a beautiful rendition Wet Hands from Minecraft for me on an in-game guitar. Or another person who showed me and another player an out-of-bounds location to fish in. I don't think this game will be popular for long, but I think it's a nice highlight in such a depressing year where we could all get together and fish as funny animals.
On a complete whim this month I decided to get back into Runescape. I played a lot of Runescape as a kid back in 2006-2007, and I think I only revisited it maybe once after the fact. I decided to get back into it, because it's always good to have something you can play while vibing in a voice call with friends or when you need to catch up on your Youtube Watch Later playlist (yay for adhd)
Runescape is kind of a spooky game if you think about it. The overworld models are definitely a little uncanny, there's a lot of skeletons and stuff lying around in dangerous parts of the world. I'd consider it a pretty decent Halloween game if it didn't already have players running around in costumes and towns decorated with jack-o'-lanterns.
I wanted to "avenge my childhood", in a way, by "beating" F2P Runescape. That meant completing all of the quests available for free users. Turns out doing something when you're a grown adult is a lot easier than doing something when you're 8 years old. I had to grind a lot to complete the infamous Dragon Slayer I quest, but I did it! I'm probably going to get membership at some point, I've never experienced the premium content in Runescape before. Also, some absolute saint walked up to me in the Grand Exchange and gave me a full set of trimmed Rune armor. I have no idea who you are, mysterious person, but thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
There's a few more things I want to get done for Halloween this year. But I'm pretty satisfied with what I've done so far, even if depression has been beating my ass I think I still managed to thoroughly enjoy my favorite time of the year. So here's to the next few days!
. It's a short horror game where you're a cat trying to collect your missing homework from a school at night while avoiding a monster that stalks the halls. It was made my Sodahraptor, who made two other games I really enjoyed: Hypnagogia: Boundless Dreams and Interior Worlds. It's one of those PS1 style horror games that's not shy about wearing its Silent Hill inspiration on its sleeve. I really liked it, despite having to replay the entire intro because my character got stuck on an object during a puzzle. It actually made me yelp out loud, too. Check it out!
I think my absolute favorite thing to come out this month though is a new short story by Pressedyes. Pressedyes is the creator of Petscop, which is probably one of my all-time favorite things to come from the internet. I love Petscop so much I still have dreams that new videos are coming out showing even weirder things in the game.
The story is called "3D Workers Island", and it's about a fanbase that forms around a free screensaver found via freeware in 1999. The story is conveyed through screenshots of said screensaver and forum posts. It only takes about 15 minutes to read, but it really stuck with me. I really hope Pressedyes continues to work on more projects, their style is pretty unmatched. Check out the story here!
And with that, Halloween comes to a close. It was fun this year. I did a lot of stuff I wanted to do... even though depression was kicking my ass for most of it. Next year it'll be even better.
Though I'm sad the spooky time of the year is coming to a close, Christmas is coming. And I really like Christmas. So here's to a Happy Halloween.
Halloween is here | October 1 2024
October is my favorite time of the year, next to December. I love Halloween. The spooky decorations, the treats, Halloween specials, scary movies, Youtubers covering scary games... I love it so much. Yume Nikki Online | October 2 2024
I've been on a Yume Nikki kick recently, ever since I watched that Nitro Rad video on it. I've always loved Yume Nikki, the game itself is so fascinating and its impact on the indie game scene is so huge I still don't feel like it gets enough credit. The Yume Nikki Online Project is a way to play the original game in your browser, along with several of its most popular fangames. Not only that, but you can play it with other people too. So I played it with some friends of mine who've never experienced the game before, and it was a blast. Some fun Halloween stuff | October 7 2024
I was going through a really anxious period of time last October, which is why Halloween last year wasn't that great. Sad to say my anxiety is back in full throttle this year... but I'm working through it.Still though, been enjoying this October so far. One of my favorite parts of Halloween is my favorite Youtubers making extra-spooky videos. A recent example is one of my current favorite creators Marsh. Huh, been a hot minute. This month has been rough on me. I've been dealing with the worst depressive spell I've had all year. Thankfully, I'm taking my first steps to get proper care for my mental health, and I've been still able to do a ton of stuff this Halloween.

Happy Halloween! | October 31 2024
I'm currently writing this right before midnight. As my last little Halloween thing this year, I decided to play a game called Late Homework 遅れた宿題.. It's a short horror game where you're a cat trying to collect your missing homework from a school at night while avoiding a monster that stalks the halls. It was made my Sodahraptor, who made two other games I really enjoyed: Hypnagogia: Boundless Dreams and Interior Worlds.
